The XiL Development Engineer is a key technical lead advancing the next generation of X‑in‑the‑Loop (XiL) capability across our F1 and LMDh programs, directly influencing how our cars perform on track. In this role, you’ll help shape the vision and standards for XiL architecture, partnering closely with engineering leadership to drive consistency, excellence, and innovation across the organization. You’ll collaborate with world‑class experts across multiple disciplines, provide high‑impact technical guidance, and play a critical role in major technical decisions through structured trade‑off analysis. Your insights will help steer long‑range lab and infrastructure planning, ensuring we invest in the tools, technology, and capabilities that power the future of GM Motorsports.
Responsibilities
Lead XiL tool and integration workstreams across F1, LMDh, and other motorsports programs, ensuring alignment with program priorities and organizational standards.
Serve as a key contributor to XiL architecture and standards development, partnering with technical leadership to define and implement best practices.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, provide technical coaching to peers, and influence major technical decisions through data‑driven trade‑off analysis.
Support long‑term lab capacity and infrastructure planning by providing strategic technical insights that guide resource allocation and investment planning.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering, or related field.
5+ years of post‑graduate industry experience.
3–5 years of experience developing tools for XiL systems (Driver‑in‑the‑Loop, Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop, Software‑in‑the‑Loop).
Strong understanding of hardware‑to‑simulation integration, including sensors, actuators, and control units.
Experience with real‑time simulation platforms.
Proficiency in programming or scripting languages used in simulation and tool development (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C#).
Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage shifting priorities, and deliver high‑quality results under tight timelines.
Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
Nice-to-haves
Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
Experience in motorsports or high‑performance automotive engineering environments.
Background in driver behavior modeling and integration with vehicle dynamics simulations.
Familiarity with motorsports‑specific systems such as telemetry, race car electronics, and simulation rigs.
Knowledge of haptics and advanced driver‑feedback systems within XiL environments.
